Logo Lover

I have chosen to write my logo essay on Chevron one of the nation’s leading sellers and producers of petroleum.  They're one of the most popular and well known gas stations through out the United States.  I chose Chevron because I pass a Chevron station at least three times a day. After I looked up the history behind the logo there was so much information to write about, from the gold rush to our millennium to base my essay off of.

Decisions, Decisions

What to choose what to choose.  Because there are so many to choose from I could write about a logo everyday for the rest of my life I wanted to.  On my 1/2 mile commute to school I pass about 30 different logos that is just on one street with 3 blocks.  What stands out the most to me is Applebee's and Starbucks I look at them numerous times a day, when I go to school, work and when I come home at night and both stores are still open at each time.  I am also pondering the thought of Chevron and Arco gas both across the street from each other.  They all provide goods to consumers and tare all on the same street which gives me the benefit of choosing which one to write about since there are so many.

What Pop Culture Means to Me

Semiotics, there are signs everywhere even if we think something doesn't have a meaning it does and it’s still a sign.  As we approach the You Decade our relationship with mass media and pop culture is growing bigger and bigger.  Our history of pop culture has grown larger than life, from the good old country folk making their own music, to having music made and someone just performing it for a paycheck.  At one point music was self-made and free, not digitalized and pre-made for someone else to perform.  We now enjoy things that have already been researched and programmed to what we think is cool or what we think is in at the time.  just to satisfy our entertainment needs.
A lot of us have even changed the way we live based on how products are introduced.  It'd be punishment if we left the house without a cell phone, or an iPod, most of us would be lost without certain modes of technology.  As our culture has evolved and changed so much we have certain traits of technology engraved into our brains that we are unable to function without it.
